Arizona
Retirement Guide.

The Arizona desert is a great place to retire. There's no need to shovel snow. Many homes feature easy to maintain desert landscaping with no grass to cut. ...
Ranch style one floor homes are very popular so you'll never need to worry about climbing stairs. Also there is plenty to do no matter what you're interests are. And the cost of living can be reasonable as well depending on your lifestyle.
Retirement communities or should I say 'active adult communities' for residents 55 and older are very popular. Some are built around lakes with walking pathways and park benches. Some communities are built around golf courses. Other areas are simply zoned 55 or older. Inexpensive mobile home parks are very popular as well.
Where to live depends on what you like to do. For example if you love ballroom dancing, the best area to retire is Mesa, however if you don't mind hanging out with people of all ages, there are many places to dance in Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale. If you love plants, you may want to locate close to a botanical gardens. If you love animals you may want to locate near a zoo or animal shelter. If you love to swim and work out you might want to locate close to a fitness center that you like.
Making New Friends
One of the best ways to make new friends is do what you love to do. The other way is to volunteer. Obviously if you're going to volunteer you'll want to do something that would be fun and rewarding for you.
There are hundreds of clubs and organizations throughout the State that would love to welcome you, especially if you're willing to donate a couple hours of your time. In return you'll be rewarded with many wonderful friends who will appreciate what you're doing for them. Also it's much easier to meet new people when you're a 'host' or 'hostess' or an official volunteer.
Look at each topic on this website to get some ideas on how you'd like to spend your time. The possibilities are endless. No matter what you're interested in you'll find other people interested in doing the same thing. This is especially true in large urban areas such as Phoenix. If you prefer more isolated areas that's good too, but you will be more limited as far as clubs and organizations.
One thing you can do is make a list of all the rewarding things you've done in your life and all the things you'd still like to do. Do you belong to any organizations such as the Elks or the Moose. Are you a veteran?
Then paint a picture in your mind of where you'd like to live. Is it a quiet single family home where houses are far apart? Is it a condo? Is it mobile home? Do you want to live on a golf course or beside a lake? How is your health? Would you feel more secure living near a major hospital or medical facilities? Or would you prefer to live near a wilderness area or hiking trails where you can commune with nature?
The next step is to zoom in on areas of the State that have everything that you're looking for. It's very easy once you have a clear picture of what you want.
